There are a few different, basic types of buttons that we will cover here. We will also make basic recommendations on what might make sense for your particular use, but there are of course, any number of combinations to create your buttons, and any number of reasons to think about making buttons to begin with.
You can use buttons to announce special events, parties, grand openings or special sales for your business). There are also campaign buttons that are extremely common, especially around election time. Also, if there are particular political issues that a region is interested in or voting on, they will often have custom buttons created to help publicize their cause.
So, to begin with, there are 4 basic shapes for buttons, each in several different sizes.
There is a basic, round button. These can be used for… well, anything! Some types of photos might actually look better on a round media, so you might want to experiment with viewing your image with different shape cropping, to see what looks best. There is also the possibility that your image would look better on a square button, possibly with a frame enhancement around the border. This truly allows your image to stand out and give it a “gallery fresh” look and feel.
Square buttons can often look best with standard portraits or photographs. But again, this depends on the image. It also depends on if you feel that the non-traditional appearance of a perfectly square button fits your needs (not every picture looks good as a square). So again, experimentation is important, and encouraged. Whenever you have custom buttons made to suit your purpose, we want to help you make them as great as possible!
There can also be rectangular buttons. These are a common shape for viewing landscape photos, or longer messages that appear better horizontally. Rectangular buttons also serve a great purpose in building photography, where sometimes a larger vertical aspect ratio is desired to highlight the “height” of the structure, without the image being distracted from surrounding landscape.
Finally, there are oval shaped buttons. These can often look great with portraits of people; the familiar oval shape of a cameo, for instance, allows a person’s naturally oval shape to stand out in maximize size in the center of the viewing area. You can also soften the edges of the oval button’s portrait for a softer appeal. These buttons can be given out at family events (such as a reunion) or birthday parties.
We hope this article helps you understand the basic shapes of buttons that you can use. There are a few to choose from, but endless possibilities!
